Danny Do You Still Paint?
About Danny Brunt
Over the years many of you have asked, “Danny, do you still paint?” Fact is I never stopped making or doing art. Even when I do not have a brush in my hand there is always subject matter to consider for the next painting, an interesting article online to read, supplies to purchase from Cheap Joes’ or just taking the time to frame the next painting in my mind.
My mother first realized that I had some artistic abilities even before I had a clue. Without her, I really don’t know when I would have picked up a brush. Additionally, I have had some great art teachers and instructors over the years. Those early years consisted mainly of pen and ink and pencil, but for the past 30 years or so, I have worked primarily in watercolor.
I am a native of Choctaw County, MS and currently live in Yazoo County, MS with my wife Marilyn and the dogs. We are very proud grandparents of our first grandson born in July of 2013. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. In May 2018 we welcomed our first granddaughter. Our son Scott and his wife Allison live in Brandon.
I was very fortunate to be able to go to work for Ivey Mechanical Company in 1978 and have managed the Human Resources part of the company for the past 15 years. This has indeed been a wonderful group of people to work with all those years.
I attended Ackerman High School, studied art at Holmes Jr. College and Mississippi State University. In addition I have been fortunate to be able to attend a number of workshop locations throughout the country.
My Art
I think a lot about art. I love to see the art that others are making and creating. Whether the art is at the National Gallery in Washington, DC, or is being created locally by 8 year olds during art classes, I find all of the above to be exciting.
My attempts at art began at an early age in grade school. My mother and my teachers were probably my biggest supporters in those early years. Because art instructors and classes did not exist in my hometown, my mother was the driving force in seeing that these were available to me. We traveled back and forth to Starkville many, many times for art classes, and these classes were my very first encounters with an artist.
For the past 20 years I have worked in ink, watercolor, and pastels. Watercolor has been my primary medium of choice.
Subject matter has varied over the years, but most of this has come from my surroundings here in Mississippi. Like a lot of Southern artists, I began with subject matter such as old barns and antebellum homes and this has changed several times over. I expect that my subject matter will continue to change as I grow older.
